Workshop Description
Art making and sandplay enhance one another as experiential play therapy modalities. Both modalities integrate sensory, emotional, and imaginative information, registering the actions, feelings, and intentions of participants. This workshop will present case examples, theoretical ideas, practical suggestions and hands-on experiences that will foster the integrative power of sandplay and art making in play therapy settings.
Workshop Goals
The workshop will help participants to:
- Learn how the integrative power of sandplay and art-making processes is particularly useful in play therapy settings.
- Experience a variety of art making exercises that are applicable to play therapy practice with both children and adults.
- Learn how these nonverbal modalities encourage play therapy clients to stay in their right hemispheres when they need to process feelings or integrate the implicit aspects of memories.
- Increase sandplay therapy skills through witnessing and creating personal sandtrays.
- Develop play therapy skills that utilize creative processes to deepen healing experiences.
