Workshop Description
The focus of this workshop is the use of sand tray play therapy as a counseling technique with groups in schools or clinics. This workshop includes case vignettes, organizational principles for groups, use of individual sand tray counseling versus group sand tray play, application of sand tray counseling techniques and practical information. Prerequisites: Levels I and II
Workshop Goals
The workshops will help participants to:
- To develop skills in facilitating group sand tray play therapy in schools and clinics.
- To learn how to organize an environment for group sand tray.
- To identify benefits and challenges of the sand tray group format.
- To learn observational and evaluation skills for the group format.
- To develop skills in recording methods for the group format.
- To identify theoretical issues and standards of training.
Presenters
Ann Buck , M.A., LPCC is a Play Therapist and Sand Tray Therapist in private practice in Albuquerque . Ann has sixteen years of experience in working with children and adolescents. While she deals with a wide variety of issues in her practice, she specializes in grief and trauma. Ann was one of the founders of the Children's Grief Center of New Mexico , and continues to participate in training volunteer facilitators for the organization. She has provided trainings for the Albuquerque Fire Department and the Albuquerque Police Department on minimizing risk for children who are on scene or affected by circumstances involving first responders. Ann worked as a Clinical Team Leader for the Crisis Team with Albuquerque Public Schools. She has presented at a variety of professional conferences including the Association for Play Therapy.
Theresa Kestly, PhD is a psychologist, educator, consultant and a registered play therapist/supervisor with the Association for Play Therapy. She is an international presenter, and she maintains a private practice with specialties in play therapy and sand tray therapy in Corrales, New Mexico for children, adults, families, couples, and small groups. Theresa served as a senior staff psychologist at the Albuquerque Family and Child Guidance Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico where she specialized in child, adolescent and family therapy, consultations with the Indian Health Service, and consultations with the Albuquerque Public Schools. She supervised psychology, counseling and psychiatry trainees as an adjunct faculty member at the University of New Mexico. Theresa served as the first president of the New Mexico Association for Play Therapy. She is the founder and director of the Sand Tray Training Institute of New Mexico in Corrales, New Mexico where she provides large-group seminars and small-group intensive training for psychotherapists in child and adult sand tray therapy.

Fees:
$250 early fee (postmarked 30 days in advance)
$270 regular fee
$230 early fee for students (postmarked 30 days in advance) - send proof of full-time student status.
Refunds: Registration fees are refundable (less $50.00 administrative fee) if written notice is post-marked no later than 30 days before the group begins. Refunds require a minimum 6-week processing time. Registrants may transfer/sell their enrollment to another qualified person at any time.
